SHBS English & Leadership Camp

Shanghai Hongrun Boyuan School 2023 English and Leadership Summer Camp (Session I) officially commenced on July 10, 2023 (Monday) in a lively atmosphere. Campers, student mentors, and teachers spent an exciting week together on the beautiful campus of Hongrun Boyuan, creating a colorful and wonderful experience.

In the ANCHOR sessions every morning, students got focused and present with fun games, and then encouraged each other, shared beautiful sentences, expressed their gratitude to each other, openly discussed any challenges they faced in search of solutions, and welcomed the new day with gratitude and support for each other.

The English and drama classes in the mornings provided an immersive and enriching experience. In an all-English environment, using stories as a vehicle and drama as a stage, students immersed themselves in an authentic English atmosphere. They spoke, acted, debated, discussed, remained still, moved, competed, and cooperated, experiencing and learning English in a fresh and unique way.

Afternoons were carefully designed with a variety of engaging activities, empowering students to learn how to how to express themselves, how to communicate and connect with others, and how to develop emotional control. Activities such as "Fruit Matching," "Tank Battle," "Magic Pen Ma Liang," "Challenge NO.1," "Cup Dance," "Noah's Ark," and many others sparked interest and brought the campers joyful and thought-provoking experiences. These activities were not just about the process; the ultimate goal was for participants to understand the underlying principles and lessons through interactive engagement.

The summer camp also included a specialized training session on first aid for the campers. Through theoretical explanations, on-site demonstrations, and hands-on exercises, students were able to master first aid skills in real-life simulated scenarios, learning to rescue themselves and help others.

The evening activities were even more diverse, including reflective leadership courses, ice cream parties, reading time, music learning sessions, book sharing sessions, and more. Despite a day of classroom learning and participating in activities, everyone remained energetic and actively prepared for the next morning's ANCHOR activity or their own closing ceremony performance.

The closing ceremony on the final day marked a perfect ending to the first session of the summer camp. Dance performances, dramas, English Dubbing Show, musical instruments, Boomwhackers, cup dances, and other wonderful programs showcased the campers' five-day achievements and their individual talents. Parents in the audience watched their children's splendid performances on stage, filled with a mix of satisfaction and surprise, which eventually turned into enthusiastic applause. The atmosphere was exciting and touching, as everyone expressed their gratitude, appreciation, and thanks in their own ways.

Finally, the campers placed their heartfelt "wish cards" on the "wish board" formed by the four words "Happy Summer" collectively written through the "Magic Pen Ma Liang" activity, creating a "wish wall" together and wishing each other a joyful summer.

Although the brief summer camp experience has come to an end, the emotions and inspirations left for the campers will last for a long time. The school empowered and accompanied the children's growth and breakthroughs with sincerity and love, while the campers and parents expressed their gratitude and respect to the school with applause. This is also the purpose of this summer camp.
