On the afternoon of April 21, 2025, a wonderful SHBS English debate was held in the auditorium. The theme of this debate focused on the current forward-looking and controversial topic - "Self-awareness and rights of artificial intelligence". After a period of careful preparation, the four debaters on both sides and the three think tank members are already gearing up and full of confidence, looking forward to showing their talents in this battle of ideas.

After the host's brief and wonderful introduction, the debate officially kicked off. The first, second and third debaters of both sides took the stage one by one, and clearly expounded the views of their respective teams. The affirmative debaters firmly advocated: "Once artificial intelligence has self-awareness, it should enjoy the same rights as humans." They argued from multiple angles such as ethics, trends in technological development, and fairness in future society, trying to fight for the rightful status of artificial intelligence. The negative debaters countered: "No matter how smart artificial intelligence is, it is just a product of code and cannot truly have 'rights'." They emphasized the essential attributes of artificial intelligence, the rights basis of human society, and the potential risks, trying to refute the affirmative's point of view.

Afterwards, the competition entered a very intense free debate session. The debaters from both sides fought fiercely, constantly asking questions to each other, finding loopholes in previous statements, and throwing out sharp questions. When faced with the opponent's "difficulties", they were still able to respond with reason and evidence, and the atmosphere on the scene was instantly pushed to a climax.

Then, the think tank members came on stage and provided the debaters with valuable questions and supplementary arguments. The think tank's intelligent support made the two sides more comfortable in the debate, further consolidating their respective advantages and keeping the suspense of the competition.

The audience questioning session pushed the atmosphere to a new level. After Teacher Xie asked the first question, other teachers also actively participated. When answering these questions, the debaters not only needed to be flexible, but also had to show solid knowledge reserves and excellent thinking ability. The applause and cheers on the scene were endless and lively.

Finally, the competition came to the exciting closing argument. The four debaters from both sides took turns to make their final closing remarks. They powerfully sorted out and sublimated the core ideas of the entire debate, and made a final refutation of the other party's arguments. The wonderful counterattacks made the atmosphere of the debate more heated and gradually ushered in the end.

Through this wonderful debate, after a long period of careful preparation and planning by the students, this feast of ideas finally came to a successful conclusion. It not only provided a platform for students to show themselves and exercise their critical thinking ability, but also triggered everyone's in-depth thinking about the relationship between artificial intelligence and human society. Everyone's English speaking ability has also been exercised and improved. I believe that this debate will leave a deep and lasting impression in everyone's hearts.
