Sage:

Amy:

At 1:30 p.m. on August 26, the International Experience Camp Business Simulation Challenge at SHBS officially kicked off. Jointly organized by SHBS and Yisheng Education, this business challenge aimed to give students a first-hand experience of how the real business world operates, to understand its core elements and division of roles, to further explore personal interests and strengths, to strengthen bonds among classmates, and to enhance teamwork, collective cohesion, self-management, and leadership skills through competition and collaboration.

More than 30 students participated in this business simulation challenge, divided into eleven “companies.” The atmosphere on site was very lively. Students had to take into account multiple factors affecting business operations, such as production, sales, inventory management, costs, market fluctuations, and unforeseen risks. Once they became familiar with the rules, participants began strategizing how to maximize the profits of their “companies.” They could raise funds by selling resources, or conduct market research to develop suitable products, launch them, and earn profits. Students bustled around the venue, negotiating with different companies about supplies, acquisitions, and financing.

The competition consisted of three phases: one preparatory fiscal year and two official fiscal years. The preparatory round lasted 15 minutes, while each official round lasted 80 minutes with a 5-minute “break” in between.

During the preparatory round, students were eager and restless, ready to showcase their talents in the virtual business world, aspiring to become the next “Zuckerberg” or “Buffett.”

When the official fiscal years began, funds were reset. Some “companies,” driven by impatience, rushed to purchase large quantities of machinery, even taking out heavy “loans” to seize the market, only to end up insolvent and facing the grim fate of an “economic recession.” Others, however, carefully crafted detailed business plans, engaged in close teamwork, and succeeded. A senior team with prior experience doubled their assets to 20 million, setting a great example. Among the new participants, one team achieved an impressive 12 million in total assets, winning the championship.

We randomly interviewed several students and teachers about their experience:

Champion team CEO, Grade 8 student Sage Liu:

“My feeling about winning first place today is that it feels a bit unreal. Why? Because throughout the competition I felt it was hard to achieve really good results, but I kept working hard. After all, if you don’t try, how will you ever know whether you can succeed? Today I learned something very important: whether you succeed or not, you must give it a try—there might be a big surprise waiting for you.

Runner-up team operations manager, Grade 8 student Amy Zhao:

“The rules of the competition felt very real and highly challenging.”

Teacher Grace:

“I think this business challenge really helps students make the economic concepts they learn in textbooks more concrete. Students truly have to run a company and explore different strategies, from market positioning to final sales. They also have to manage their funds to keep the company profitable. It’s a very good opportunity.”

This business challenge helped us connect classroom knowledge with real business scenarios, strengthened our communication and teamwork skills, and made us more composed and confident in the face of challenges. This experience will surely have a positive and lasting impact on our future learning and life.
