Both social sciences and natural sciences are indispensable pillars of modern civilization. They not only form a rigorous and vast system of knowledge but also represent a worldview characterized by rational exploration and critical thinking, exerting a lasting and profound influence on the intellectual growth of students. For this reason, SHBS has arranged fun scientific experience courses during the International Curriculum Camp. Now, follow my perspective as an ordinary participant and curious explorer, and step into this lively yet rigorous world of scientific discovery!

Chemistry

In the chemistry experiment class, the teacher guided students in conducting the "Elephant Toothpaste" experiment. First, hydrogen peroxide solution was slowly poured into a conical flask, followed by an appropriate amount of dish soap, gently shaken, and then purple dye was added and stirred evenly. When the potassium iodide catalyst was added to the flask, yellow-purple gradient foam instantly erupted from the mouth of the bottle, forming a continuously expanding column. Through this hands-on practice, everyone enhanced their abilities in observation, recording, teamwork, and scientific inquiry, sparked an interest in exploring the mysteries of chemistry, and realized the close connection between scientific knowledge and real life.

Physics

In the physics class, the teacher used the vivid example that "fingers can never truly touch a desktop" to guide students in discussing the difference between science and truth. By explaining the principles of atomic repulsion and electromagnetic interactions, students gradually came to understand that science is a model-based explanation of objective phenomena rather than absolute truth. This lesson not only deepened students' understanding of the essence of physics but also inspired preliminary reflections on philosophical questions in science.

Mathematics

In the mathematics class, students learned about the Law of Cosines. The teacher wrote the formula on the blackboard and then, through geometric derivation and algebraic transformation, step by step demonstrated how the formula unifies the relationships between the sides and angles of a triangle. Through deriving the formula, students experienced the rigor of mathematical logic and the inherent harmony of algebraic expression. This process cultivated their abstract thinking and ability to integrate shapes with numbers, strengthened their confidence in using mathematical tools to solve practical problems, and allowed them to appreciate the simplicity and profound beauty embedded in mathematical formulas.

Computer Science

In the computer practice class, the teacher guided students in using AI tools to quickly develop small games. By adjusting parameters and optimizing logic, the students successfully created classic games such as Tetris and Snake. The teacher provided巡回 guidance, promptly helping to resolve issues in the code, enabling students to master the basic methods of generative programming through practice and enhancing their ability to realize creativity using artificial intelligence technology.

Economics

In the economics class, the teacher used vivid cases to help students understand the essence of economics—making optimal choices under limited resources. In the subsequent mobile phone sales simulation activity, students showcased their strengths: some emphasized performance parameters, while others highlighted price advantages, turning the classroom into a miniature market. When the teacher raised questions like "Why do 24-hour convenience stores need to lock their doors?" and "Why are blue whales rarer than chickens?", the students suddenly realized that economic concepts such as cost control, scarcity, and environmental adaptability are hidden in every corner of daily life. This lesson made it clear that economics is never an abstract theory but rather a key to explaining the workings of the real world.

Biology

In the biology class, students used differently colored soft candies to simulate chromosome structures. The colorful candies were carefully arranged into double helix formations, and a chromosome model made of soft candies was displayed on the podium. At one point, someone's candy suddenly broke in two, accidentally demonstrating the phenomenon of chromosome breakage. This innovative hands-on lesson transformed abstract genetic concepts into a sweet, tangible experiment, presenting and explaining the profound code of life within the cell nucleus in the most vivid way.

The SHBS International Curriculum Camp planted the seeds of scientific thinking in our hearts in such a vivid and profound manner. It made us truly feel that science is not just about theorems and formulas in textbooks but a living force for understanding the world and exploring the unknown. Though this journey was short, it opened a door for us to a vast, rational, and surprising world beyond.
