9月15日周一早上8:30，上海宏润博源高级中学升学部非常荣幸地邀请到了来自美国顶尖文理学院、加州著名5C联盟中的两所院校招生官——Pomona College的Tray老师与Claremont McKenna College (CMC) 的Eleanor老师，亲临宏润博源学校，为同学们带来了一场生动实用的补充文书工作坊！
On Monday, September 15 at 8:30 a.m., the College Counseling Department of SHBS was honored to welcome two admissions officers from top liberal arts colleges in the U.S. and members of California’s renowned 5C Consortium—Mr. Tray from Pomona College and Ms. Eleanor from Claremont McKenna College (CMC). They visited Hongrun Boyuan to deliver a lively and practical supplemental essay workshop for our students!
活动还没正式开始，同学们早已提前就位。许多人带着自己对梦校文书题目的初步思考，早早开始讨论与提问，阅览室里的氛围迅速升温。
Even before the event officially began, students had already taken their seats. Many came prepared with preliminary ideas about their dream school essay prompts, eagerly engaging in discussion and asking questions. The atmosphere in the reading room quickly grew warm and energized.
招生官Tray首先从两校所在的南加州环境讲起，逐步切入正题——什么让你与众不同（What makes you unique？）,并深入到了案例，他层层递进地举例——比如你想申请生物专业，其中成绩优秀、喜欢生物、热爱钻研的申请者很多，那么每位申请者除了要清楚自己想学什么（WHAT），还要思考SO WHAT？以及WHY？这些点也是招生官在补充文书中WHY MAJOR相关问题里想看到的答案。
Admissions officer Tray began with an introduction to the Southern California environment where the two colleges are located, then gradually transitioned to the core question—What makes you unique? He further illustrated this with concrete examples, building layer by layer. For instance, if you want to apply for a biology major, there are many applicants with excellent grades who also love biology and enjoy research. Therefore, beyond knowing clearly what you want to study, each applicant also needs to reflect on so what? and why? These are exactly the kinds of points admissions officers hope to see addressed in the “Why Major” portion of the supplemental essays.
随后，同学Sean提问：“哪些具体活动或策略能让我们变得更特别？” Tray回应道：“职位和头衔固然有用，但更重要的是你如何影响他人、改变社区，甚至推动某种全球视野的传播——招生办真正看重的，是你如何用实际行动传递价值。”
Student Sean then asked: “What specific activities or strategies can make us more distinctive?” Tray responded: “Titles and positions certainly help, but what’s more important is how you influence others, impact your community, and even contribute to a global perspective. What admissions offices truly value is how you communicate your worth through real action.”
Eleanor则重点介绍了CMC的补充文书题目和评审理念。她指出，CMC极其关注“个人”本身，文书应清晰表达三个方面：为什么选择CMC？你希望CMC怎样支持你的目标？你认为CMC是一所怎样的学校？她强调，CMC看重挑战权威的勇气、多元观点的表达，以及每个人身上所体现的领导力品质——因为领导力本质是沟通、组织与推动改变的能力。
Eleanor focused on CMC’s supplemental essay prompts and evaluation philosophy. She explained that CMC pays close attention to the individual. Essays should clearly express three aspects: Why CMC? How do you hope CMC will support your goals? And how do you perceive CMC as a school? She emphasized that CMC values the courage to challenge authority, the expression of diverse perspectives, and the qualities of leadership each student embodies—because leadership, at its core, is the ability to communicate, organize, and drive change.
“你是谁？什么让你特别？你想成为怎样的人？”——这些看似简单的问题，或许将贯穿学生的整个高中、大学，甚至更远的人生阶段。而这一次的工作坊，正是帮助同学们叩击这些命题的重要起点。
“Who are you? What makes you special? Who do you want to become?” These seemingly simple questions may accompany students not only through high school and college, but well into their lives. This workshop marked an important starting point for students to grapple with these fundamental questions.
本次活动互动频繁、内容扎实，为学生提供了极具实操价值的文书指导。本学期，宏润博源学校还将持续邀请多国高校招生官到校交流，致力打破信息差，让学子在与招生官面对面中，收获第一手的申请认知与自信。
The session was highly interactive and content-rich, providing students with actionable and practical essay-writing guidance. This semester, Hongrun Boyuan will continue to invite admissions officers from universities around the world to engage with our students—breaking down information barriers and enabling them to gain first-hand insights and confidence in the application process.
